Final Opportunity for Property Tax Settlement

The state government has introduced a one-time settlement (OTS) scheme, allowing residents until August 31 to pay their outstanding property tax without facing any penalties or interest.

To encourage widespread participation, all Municipal Corporation (MC) zonal offices will keep their suvidha kendras open during regular working hours tomorrow.

Mayor Inderjit Kaur emphasized that this initiative showcases the government's dedication to public welfare. She mentioned that the decision to operate the centers on Sunday was made specifically to assist the community. “I urge residents to take advantage of this exceptional opportunity to settle their property tax dues without incurring extra penalties or interest,” she stated.

Officials noted that property tax, which was first implemented in the 2013–14 fiscal year, is assessed annually on a self-reporting basis. Property owners who neglect to pay typically face a 20% penalty and an annual interest rate of 18% on the unpaid amount.

However, under the OTS scheme, residents who settle their dues by August 31, 2025, will be exempt from both penalties and interest. Payments can be made directly at the suvidha kendras located in the MC’s zonal offices.

Officials have also indicated that starting September 1, 2025, penalties and interest will be applied to those who have not settled their accounts.
